About Hoop Zone

Hoop Zone is a basketball gym and training complex designed for use by basketball players and athletes in Austin and surrounding areas. As a 501 (c) (3) Non-Profit Organization, our focus at Hoop Zone is not only on the game, but also on teaching life skills to every player who walks through our doors. We want to bring the game of basketball to as many people as we possibly can, men and women. At the same time, our training center offers the chance for players of all skill levels to raise their game to the next level, learn the Hoop Zone Code of Conduct, and get as much out of the sport as they can.  Dedicated to the community, Hoop Zone strives to support and sponsor community events as well as host them whenever possible. Our hope is that   through the use of our facility, members' enjoyment and appreciation for basketball, fitness, and life will be enhanced.

Meet our Staff

Bill Wendlandt - Founder

Picture
After a distinguished basketball career that included playing in Europe, Bill Wendlandt was looking for an opportunity to stay close to the game. Having benefited from youth sports experiences that helped him earn all-state recognition at Westlake High School and MVP and Captain for the University of Texas, he decided to create an everlasting payback to the Austin community and created Hoop Zone. Bill has volunteered as a coach for 20 years, and created the renowned Texas Future Stars basketball camp in 1982. For the past ten years, Bill has coached the top 3-point percentage shooters in central Texas and his high school team led all of central Texas in scoring. Bill's Hoop Zone 15U team won the national championship and also has worked with NBA players such as T.J. Ford and Chris Mihm. He has demonstrated a track record at building confidence and character in the players he has coached. During the business week, Bill works in commercial real estate with a company he founded called Office Leasing Advisors, Inc. Bill has two wonderful kids, Shea (18) who is an aspiring sports photographer, and Camryn (13) who loves to play soccer and basketball.
